Job Description:

  • Registered pharmacist and valid license in the state of Kansas
  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy
  • PharmD degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in pharmacy management/leadership

Responsibilities:

  • Directing and coordinating activities and functions of the hospital pharmacy, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and legal requirements
  • Analyzing prescribing trends, excessive usage, and reporting findings to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee on a quarterly basis
  • Preparing pharmacy budget and required department reports for hospital administrators
  • Providing drug application and characteristics advice to hospital physicians and mid-levels during medical staff meetings
  • Ensuring safe, legal, and ethical practices through quality assurance techniques
  • Organizing daily activities and staffing needs to ensure timely completion of assignments and attendance at required meetings
  • Ensuring pharmacy staff has necessary skills and equipment for optimal pharmaceutical care
  • Conducting routine checks on Pyxis units, reconciling narcotic documentation, and clarifying medication administration records
  • Promptly, accurately, and courteously responding to physician, nursing, and patient requests for patient care
  • Utilizing CPOE for physician orders
  • Supervising medication area refills and maintaining controlled substance security and control
  • Managing pharmaceutical and supply orders while maintaining inventory control
  • Assisting in the maintenance of the 340B drug program
  • Reviewing and revising department policies and procedures
  • Coordinating clinical pharmacy services, including drug information requests, drug therapy monitoring, patient education, and responding to code blue situations
  • Maintaining all necessary licenses and permits as required by the Kansas Board of Pharmacy, DEA, and Medicare
  • Coordinating drug recalls and implementing a process for the control of outdated medications

Additional Information:

This is a hands-on Director position in a not-for-profit acute care hospital with under 50 beds. The previous Director has relocated to a larger facility. The department consists of 6 full-time employees (including the Director) and one part-time employee. The pharmacy department is located in a secured room within the nursing wing.
